About WilGlobo Women Entrepreneurs Hub

Women entrepreneurs collaborating

Our Story

The WilGlobo Women Entrepreneurs Hub was born from a critical observation: despite women owning 16% of small and medium-sized businesses in Canada and contributing over $150 billion to the economy annually, they continue to face disproportionate barriers to success. Our founder, after years of working with newcomers and diverse entrepreneurs, noticed that women entrepreneurs—particularly those from underrepresented groups—lacked tailored resources that addressed their unique challenges.

In 2022, we conducted extensive research across Calgary and discovered alarming gaps:

  • Women entrepreneurs received less than 4% of available venture capital funding
  • Only 11% of mentor relationships in business accelerators involved women mentors
  • 67% of women entrepreneurs reported feeling isolated in their entrepreneurial journey
  • Immigrant women entrepreneurs faced compounded challenges with language, networking, and cultural barriers
  • Existing programs often failed to address the work-life integration challenges unique to women

These findings compelled us to action. As part of WilGlobo Empowerment Services' broader mission to support underserved communities, we committed to creating a dedicated hub that would address these specific gaps and provide women entrepreneurs with the tailored support they need to thrive.

Why We Exist

The Women Entrepreneurs Hub exists to transform the entrepreneurial landscape for women in Calgary and eventually across Canada. We believe that when women entrepreneurs succeed, entire communities benefit through job creation, economic growth, and innovative solutions to social challenges.

Our research showed that women entrepreneurs thrive in environments that offer:

  • Access to women-led mentorship and role models who understand their unique challenges
  • Specialized training that accommodates diverse learning styles and life responsibilities
  • Funding pathways designed to overcome documented biases in traditional financing
  • Strong community connections that combat isolation and provide emotional support
  • Practical resources that address both business development and personal wellbeing

The WilGlobo Women Entrepreneurs Hub is deliberately designed to provide all these elements in an integrated, accessible platform. We're not just another business resource—we're a comprehensive ecosystem built specifically to address the documented gaps that have historically held women entrepreneurs back.
